More Charges Added for Intoxicated Wrong Way Driver in Crash That Killed Appeals Court Judge

Hunt County Sheriff’s Office has filed more charges against Megan E. Smith for her role in a crash that killed 5th District Court of Appeals Justice David L. Bridges. Smith was originally charged with Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle.

HCSO has added charges for Parole Violation, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana. Bond has not been set on these charges.

Smith is currently held at Hunt County Jail on $150,000 bond for the original Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle charge.

The preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday, Smith was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of I.H. 30 and struck two vehicles.  As a result of the collision, Justice Bridges’ vehicle caught fire and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the second vehicle that was struck was not injured in the accident

Smith was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the accident.  She was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
