Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Discovers $109,000 in Cash During I-30 Traffic Stop

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office discovered $109,000 and a small amount of cocaine in a vehicle during a traffic stop on I-30 on Wednesday.

Dion Mitchell McLendon, Round Rock, and Andrea Yates, Austin, were pulled over 126 mile marker on I-30 westbound for a traffic violation. He admitted to possessing a large amount of currency and refused permission to search the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was initiated upon a positive alert for narcotics from the officer’s K-9 partner. The search recovered the $109,000 in currency and 2.4 grams of cocaine.

McLendon and Yates are held at Hopkins County Jail on charges of Money Laundering and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
